Horizontal Cake Textures
The sides of a frosted cake are often the most difficult to decorate. Creating a visual impact on this surface that is easily malleable and vertical is challenging and requires a lot of practice! In the second of five Buttercream Essentials Certificate classes, brought to you by NY Cake Academy’s Cake Decorating Fundamentals, you’ll learn how to achieve a beautiful wall of frosting to show off your new decorating skills. We’ll begin with tips and tricks to applying the perfect base layer of frosting. From ribbon/spatula techniques to spirals and horizontal stripes, you’ll use Swiss Meringue Buttercream to practice with cake combs and spatulas, providing you with a variety of patterns to stylize your cakes. After a review of how to layer your cake, you’ll assemble your own cake with a fruit filling and clean, horizontal stripes. Throughout the class you’ll receive guidance from our expert instructors to master these textured techniques!
